Trainings

Our purpose is to provide professional development of child welfare managers, supervisors and other workers through academy and in-service trainings and to recruit and prepare child welfare worker interns for employment with Los Angeles DCFS.

To create knowledge, test promising ideas, and implement evidence-based practices in shared development with Los Angeles County public child welfare programs; Through joint consultation, to develop and evaluate graduate level intern field education; In cooperation with the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, to promote continuous improvement in information systems that support decision-making in public child welfare programs;

To convene policy and practice forums that deepen understanding of trends and policies in public child welfare in Los Angeles. To initiate new collaborations that broaden and strengthen interagency relationships supporting children and families.  

Management Core

The Management Core series involves DCFS specific modules as well as six modules provided by CWDS/San Diego State University Foundation.  It provides participants with opportunities to understand leadership from a higher perspective within DCFS. 

SCSW Academy

The Academy for newly promoted Supervising Children’s Social Workers currently involves ten days of training including California’s mandatory statewide standardized topics and curriculum for this audience. 

CSW Foundation Academy

The CSW Academy blends e-Learning, instructor-led training, facilitated skill labs, individual and group work exercises and assignments, office days, and simulation exercises.  

HSA Academy

Human Services Aides (HSA’s) provide client related assistance to children, families, and Children Social Workers (CSW’s).

Field instructor

CSWs and SCSWs who are assigned interns to supervise must complete 15 hours of training in order to be certified as a DCFS Field Instructor. 

DCFS Internship program

The Master of Social Work Internship Program is intended to identify and support the training of MSW students who after receiving their MSW degrees become LA County DCFS Children’s Social Workers.
