History

In 1991, the Inter-University Consortium on Child Welfare (IUCCW) Training Project was formed through three individual contracts between DCFS and three professional schools of social work that made up the IUCCW: California State University Long Beach, University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California.

In 2013, a three-year Contract (2013-2017) was established between LA County DCFS and UCLA solely, streamlining the immense contract and increased number of deliverables under one university. UCLA, holding the Master Contract, subcontracts with six other schools of social work. While UCLA has the direct contractual relationship with DCFS, the Contract requires that UCLA subcontract with the original three IUCCW universities as well as four others, California State University Los Angeles, California State University Dominguez Hills, California State University Northridge, and more recently, Azusa Pacific University.

The seven schools of social work throughout LA County recruit and provide internship stipends to a diverse and large group of MSW students. UCLA and its six subcontractors together form a partnership along with LA County DCFS and its Training Section to provide comprehensive training and education to a range of staff including MSW Internship students, Children’s Social Workers (CSWs), Supervising Children’s Social Workers (SCSWs), DCFS leadership, and administrative staff.
